How to make a receipt on your phone, free

Most small businesses in Nigeria run on one device: the phone. Orders come in on WhatsApp and Instagram, payments land in a banking app, and the customer expects a receipt in the same chat a minute later. You do not need a laptop, a printer or an app from the Play Store to give them one. Your phone’s browser is enough.

This guide walks through the options, then shows the fastest way to make a branded receipt on your phone and send it.

Your options, from slowest to fastest

• Write it by hand and take a photo. Free, but slow, often blurry, and easy for anyone to copy.
• Edit a template in a design app. Looks nice, but you retype the business details, change the number and fix the alignment every single time. It also leaves you with no record of past receipts.
• Use a spreadsheet or notes app. Works for record keeping, but the result does not look like a receipt a customer would keep.
• Use a receipt generator in the browser. You enter your business details once. After that you only type what changes: the customer, the items and how they paid.

If you sell more than a few times a week, the last option saves the most time and looks the most professional.

What the receipt should show

Whichever way you make it, a receipt your customer can rely on includes:

Step by step: making a receipt on your phone with rcpt

Once: set up your business (about 2 minutes)

• Keep item names short. “Ankara gown, size 12” reads better on a phone than a full sentence.
• Use a square or simple logo. Very wide logos shrink to a thin line on a receipt.
• Turn on data saver only after setup. Uploading your logo needs a moment of good signal; making receipts afterwards is light.
• Send the image, keep the PDF. Images preview inside WhatsApp; PDFs suit customers who need to submit a receipt to an employer.
